Distinguishing Job Characteristics

The head coach is to coordinate the program for his/her sports. He/she shall be directly responsible to the Athletic Director/Coach for all coaching duties.

Scope of Supervision Assistant coaches and team managers.
Equipment Operated His/her sport related equipment for specific sport.

Working Conditions

Good office working conditions and exposure to outdoor weather conditions. The work requires the use of safe work practices and observance of general safety, health, and traffic regulations. Typical traffic conditions and hazards when visiting other campuses or other locations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently stands, walks, and sits. The employee occasionally lifts or moves athletic equipment and other work-related items of varying weights up to 100 pounds or more.

Qualifications

An appropriate combination of education, training, course work and experience may qualify an applicant to demonstrate required knowledge, skills, and abilities. An example of an acceptable qualification is: previous experience coaching high school or college age students or a Bachelors degree; Masters degree preferred. Successful experience as high school or college coach preferred.
Applicant must successfully pass required background checks, in accordance with Southern State Community College’s policies and procedures and applicable laws.
Ability to document identity and employment eligibility as a condition of employment in compliance with Immigration Reform and Control Act requirements.

Salary Range $4,500 Per Season
Essential Job Duties

To perform this job successfully, an individual must perform essential duties to expected performance standards. Reasonable accommodations are made as required for persons who are disabled under the Americans With Disabilities Act.
Be familiar with and follow the policies of SSCC as set forth in the handbook.
Hold pre-season meeting with student athletes to discuss philosophy of the program and inform them of responsibilities and regulations.
Supervise assistant coaches; assign their respective duties and responsibilities.
Submit forms to Athletic Director/Coach as required by SSCC…i.e. eligibility roster, players’ addresses, accident reports, etc.
Observe and evaluate total program and make recommendations to Athletic Director/Coach.
Assume responsibility for sportsmanship, conduct, and academic progress of all team members.
Attend coaches meetings and clinics for professional growth.
Issue, collect, inventory, and store equipment. Give a written copy of the inventory and condition of equipment to the Athletic Director/Coach each year.
Assist the Athletic Director/Coach in scheduling.
Submit equipment requests to Athletic Director/Coach for approval and disposition.
Be responsible for public relations and the publicity of the activity through the Communications Department.
Game management – get field or floor ready, assist in having support personnel such as scorers and timers assigned.
Maintains confidentiality of confidential or sensitive records and information.
Works assigned schedule, exhibits regular and punctual attendance and works outside of normal schedule as needed to meet workload demands.
