Distinguishing Job Characteristics

Provides support and assistance to library patrons, including students, faculty, staff, and the public with research and information needs. Maintains, schedules, and delivers classroom equipment. Prepares and routes mail. Conducts test proctoring.

Scope of Supervision None
Equipment Operated Computer; printer; calculator; copier; fax machine; telephone; typewriter; postage machine; laminator; projector; television, VCR/DVD player; sound system and other library and standard office equipment.
Confidential Data

Confidential information included in student ID system; confidential addresses and phone numbers; other non-public and sensitive college records.

Working Conditions

Good working conditions in a library environment. The work requires the use of safe work practices with office equipment, and observance of general safety regulations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently sits for extended periods of time, and regularly stands and walks. The employee regularly exhibits manual dexterity when working on the computer, typing and performing other related tasks. The employee regularly performs general physical labor when lifting books and stocking shelves. The employee regularly stoops, kneels, crouches, climbs and balance when shelving books and performing other library duties. The employee regularly talks and hears when working with students, faculty, staff, the learning community and other job contacts. Vision demands include close, relatively detailed vision, with the ability to adjust focus when typing or reading a computer screen. The employee occasionally lifts up to 25 pounds.

Qualifications

An appropriate combination of education, training, course work, experience, and demonstrated knowledge, skills and abilities may qualify an applicant for this position. Examples of acceptable qualifications are: High School Diploma/GED with two years of experience OR Associate’s degree with six months to one year experience OR a Bachelor’s degree. Experience must be in an office environment, library, or other customer service focused field.
Applicant must successfully pass required background checks in accordance with Southern State Community College’s policies and procedures and applicable laws.
Ability to document identity and employment eligibility as a condition of employment in compliance with Immigration Reform and Control Act requirements.

Salary Range $8.15 - $8.50
Essential Job Duties

To perform this job successfully, an individual must perform essential duties to expected performance standards. Reasonable accommodations are made as required for persons who are disabled under the Americans With Disabilities Act.
Assists, directs, and instructs patrons, including students, faculty, staff, and the general public, on the use and location of reference materials online and in the library. Assists patrons to use library equipment and services including internet, online catalog, copier, and other equipment. Provides other assistance.
Talks with patrons to provide information and answer routine questions in-person.
Utilizes OPASS, OhioLink, SearchOhio, and Interlibrary Loan (ILL) or other resources to meet patron needs. Pulls and checks out materials.
Schedules the use of equipment. Delivers and returns equipment and troubleshoots equipment.
Provides IDs to students and faculty.
Develops and maintains bulletin board and other displays.
Checks for overdue library materials.
Processes outgoing and incoming inter-campus and OhioLINK mail. Requests supplies for OhioLINK book delivery.
Shelves books and other library materials, and maintains orderliness of library. Maintains shelf order, and rearranges and shifts books on shelves as needed to ensure proper order. Performs routine inventory checks as directed by the College Librarian or Director of Library Services.
Opens library and turns on equipment. Secures sensitive information, such as patron information, and closes the library.
Responsible for test proctoring in the library for Southern State Community College faculty and students. Works closely with faculty to ensure all testing requirements are met to their standards.
Pulls books, periodicals, and other materials to be weeded as directed by the College Librarian or Director of Library Services.
Answers telephone to provide general information and answer routine inquiries. Transfers calls to requested party.
Expands and extends learning throughout the College community.
Maintains confidentiality of confidential or sensitive records and information.
Works assigned schedule, exhibits regular and punctual attendance.
